Dr. Juan Carlos Portuondo, a Miami native, has been practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for over thirty years. His formal educational journey culminated with the completion of his surgical training at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital. Since then, he has been in private practice in the Coral Gables area. As of January 2026, Dr. Portuondo will be relocating his practice to the professional building adjacent to South Miami Hospital, as he will be joining MOSA Surgery, a group practice that encompasses both oral and plastic surgery. Dr. Portuondo practices the full scope of his specialty, which includes the management of a wide range of conditions related to the mouth, dentition, and facial region. His main areas of interest and expertise include third molar (wisdom teeth) removal, intravenous sedation, all aspects of dental implant surgery, and corrective jaw surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. Portuondo— a long-standing diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery—has been actively involved in teaching young surgeons and has lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to his areas of expertise. He has also participated in numerous local and national professional organizations, including the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS). After many years in practice, Dr. Portuondo remains committed to the highest standards of professionalism, patient safety, and excellence in surgical care.
